In school my spanish teacher told of how he visited Argentina, this would be back in the 70′s, and attended a dinner party. The lady host, who sat next to him, told a funny story, and when she finished, he said “your pulling my leg”! He said all the guests stopped and looked at her, and she, in embarrassed horror, assured all that she didn’t touch his leg. He then explained the expression and all was well. However, one must be careful, as the off handed expression in one lanuage, might be fighting words in another.
