The Mississauga ACCES office will offer programs in sales and marketing, financial services, IT and supply chain logistics.

James Zhang, 36, benefitted from the bridge program for financial services. He was a banking professional in Beijing before he emigrated to Canada in 2010. He and his wife completed the bridge programming in financial services through ACCES Employment in Mississauga. He was hired by RBC as a branch manager trainee in September 2010 and now manages the RBC branch at Hwy. 10 and Eglinton Ave.

Another 1,335 skilled newcomers in Mississauga will get the training they need to find work in their fields following yesterday’s announcement that the provincial government is investing $5.5 million to train them.

His wife works for RBC, as well. The family with their 8monthold daughter will soon be moving into the Mississauga house they bought this week.

锘?M for training newcomers in Mississauga

The provincial funds will finance bridge training projects in Mississauga that run from three to five weeks. They’re industryspecific and designed to familiarize internationally trained professionals with working in Canada.

More than 50 per cent of Mississauga residents are newcomers. Damerla said Canada is a country of newcomers, which makes funding for job training essential.

Yesterday, Damerla announced that another $29.5 million in provincial funds will be spent on bridge programs across Ontario. Meanwhile, the federal government will contribute up to $22 million to the 70 bridge programs operating in this province.

“These programs are the most fantastic way to make connections between newcomers and employers,” said Allison Pond, executive director ACCES Employment Mississauga. “We have lots of employers, large and small who work with us.”

Zhang is a huge fan of the program he credits with helping him find work in his field.

Mississauga EastCooksville MPP Dipika Damerla made the funding announcement at the ACCES Employment office at 151 City Centre Dr. ACCES Employment in a notforprofit Employment Ontario provider that specializes in job placement for newcomers.

“Canadian banking is a way different banking system,” said Zhang. “Canada has very different cultural values too. The bridge program made the difference for me and my wife.”
